For the couples I’ve partnered with, the “yays” or “nays” to a kid-friendly affair are pretty evenly divided. The “nay” club pictures a more mature event with the champagne poppin’ and guests dancing well into the night. The “yay” club welcomes the thought of littles running around the hall while the room chatters – the “more the merrier,” they say.
The “yays” and “nays” are not any more family-focused or lovely or considerate than the other. They simply have a vision for their special day and that is fair and just. Together, we work to bring together that vision in a way that is authentic and ‘about them.’
Yet, if you are in the “yay” club, take some extra steps to ensure the kids have a grand ole’ time and that their parents are set-up for success to both enjoy themselves while still looking after junior and co.
HOW? Well…
- If the venue space allows, consider a special dedicated area where the kids can congregate and be silly.
- Book a babysitter or two or more (depending on how many young ones attend) allowing mom & dad to have a break and eat their dinners in peace.
- What about hiring a magician or balloon animal artist or face painter? Bring in the age-appropriate entertainment!
- Create a little ‘happy kiddo’ takeaway package to place at each of their seats with custom wedding activity booklets, colouring tools, stickers, and snacks or treats.
And even if your event is kid-free, you could always acknowledge the little family members and friends in your lives by sending mom & dad home with a special little “favour” or keepsake just for them.
Whatever you do, DON’T forget about the kids, Make ‘planning for mini guests’ a part of the master to-do list. Don’t leave it last minute and definitely have fun with it! I mean what’s more awesome then piecing together a day that leaves both big and small smiling from ear-to-ear.
With love,
Paula
